RICC Comment Moderation Policy

We value intelligent, issue-based conversations across social media platforms and our website because we believe it is critical to promoting true Islamic values. We encourage you to use the comments section to voice your thoughts about our Islamic centre. However, we reserve the right to edit, move or delete comments which fall within the following categories: offensive or inappropriate language, failure to respect fellow commenters, links returning errors, irrelevant links, or comments not contributing to the conversation.

These guidelines will help ensure the quality of these conversations.

  1. Stay on point. Off-topic comments, even nicely written ones that have nothing to do with our centre, will be removed.

  2. Obscenities will not be tolerated. The system will immediately filter out posts with curse words. Replacing certain letters with special characters like “_!#$%” won’t work either. Posts that contain obscenities and expletives will be deleted.

  3. No room for hate. To ensure that our online platforms remain a safe space for everyone, regardless of race, creed, color, or sexual orientation, we will strictly enforce a zero-tolerance policy against any form of hate speech - comments that “incite violence or vilify a protected person or group."

  4. No personal attacks. Treat everyone with respect. Attempts to harass, insult and/or damage the reputation of others are unacceptable. Choose your words wisely, if you feel the need to be a bit more aggressive to stress a point, make sure it is not at the expense of another person. Avoid name-calling. If you make an accusation, substantiate it.

  5. No spam, porn or illegal material. These will not be tolerated.

  6. Smear campaigns. Criminals for hire, trolls paid to spread black propaganda, and libel are not allowed. Libel is a criminal offense. It constitutes but is not limited to “malicious imputations that tend to cause dishonor or discredit anyone.”

  7. All rights reserved: RICC, the blog administrators, Facebook admins and editors, authors, contributors, and editors reserve the right to edit, delete, move, or mark as spam any and all comments.

  8. Moderation system: We use Facebook’s comment moderation and affinity filters to moderate comments. If your comment does not appear immediately then it may have been flagged by the system. In which case we ask that you be patient, approval times may differ depending on the time of day, but we’ll get to your comments as soon as possible.
